Android @ Home

While only announced yesterday at Googles anual I/O conference, Android @ Home is generating a lot of buzz, mainly around the new ways they are proposing to control lighting in the home.

The new home automation system is running on a proptietary, albeit open 900Mhz wireless standard that Google is intending to be easy and inexpensive to implement in various devices, from light bulbs to washing machines.

What could this mean for us in the aquarium world? Easy to control lighting systems that can be manipulated from your Android phone or tablet, or from your computer with a minimal amount of expense going to the fixture manufacturer. Many times, wireless features are expensive to add to fixtures because of the licensing costs associated with the protocol used. With Google opening up the protocol, it's free to use by anyone.

Sounds like fun to me.
