Newly Announced Cree XT-E

Cree announced today the arrival of a new LED for the remote phophor crowd. The new XT-E Royal Blue LED is a little unique in it's design, sporting a pyramid shaped die structure, giving it a 140 degree viewing angle, which will work quite nicely in many applications.

Now, I'm sure some of you may be getting excited to see a new royal blue LED that can start going toe to tow with the XP-G and newer XM-L, but it won't. Sorry to dissapoint, but the overall output is about the same as the current XP-E LEDs, although with slightly better overall efficiency. Cree has listed one higher bin at 525mW though, so there is a slight improvement.

Either way, a new LED with some promising potential for the future of lighting.
